What just happened?

Loads of activity this weekend and the days before.

Some great action from Wheelchair fencing in Pisa in the IWAS Leaning Tower World Cup to Northern Ireland’s Derry Open at the Magee Campus of Ulster University to the Welsh Open in Cardiff, the Youth Series Finals in Liverpool and the Manchester Cadet ‘B’ BRC.

Overall we estimate 64 UK women aged from under 10 years old to over 50 and 105 UK men aged also from under 10 years old to over 50 took part in these sabre competitions over the weekend.

At the Derry Open there were 5 different clubs involved, at the Welsh Open there were at least 15 different clubs with the top 10 in the Women representing 6 different clubs while in the Men’s event the top 10 came from 7 clubs and at least15 clubs were represented.

At the Manchester Cadet there was a similar story with 7 clubs in the top 10 finishers in both Men’s and Women’s events while the Youth Series, with a generally younger set of fencers – from U10 to U17 had a more localised attendance.

All the competitions featured links to live or semi live results so people at home could follow progress and fencers spectators at the competitions could keep up to date.

And then someone packs it all away until next time!

Well done to everyone who got out there and fenced, and refereed and armoured and catered and supported and coached and mentored and who put on these wonderful competitions.

What a rich and amazing achievement all round.
